The False Prophets and their Fruit.

Updated: May 22, 2024

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” Matthew 7:15-16 KJV

“Fruit” the Greek word used here is “karpos” (G2590), in this context it means: work, act, deed, effect or result.

What will their fruit look like?

Further down Christ tells us how to identify their fruit.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”Matthew 7:21-23 KJV

“Work” the Greek word used here is “ergazomai” (G2038) when used in this context it means: work, labor, trade, produce or minister.

“Iniquity” the Greek word used here is “anomia” (G458) when used in this context it means: a condition of being without law, transgress the law, Transgression of the law, unrighteousness.

We will be able to identify false prophets by their fruit (karpos), they will be ministers (ergazomai) of lawlessness (anomia).

What is so important to note is that the people truly believed they had faith in Jesus and because of this faith they assumed it guaranteed automatic entrance into the kingdom: they healed the sick in his name, they casted out devils in his name, they did many miracles in the name of Jesus but they had one issue; they are teachers of Lawlessness.

“Faith is the root, obedience is the fruit”
